Thoughts from Mark

Yes, I do.

Evolution (www.dictionary.com): any process of formation or growth; a process of gradual, peaceful, progressive change or development; a motion incomplete in itself, but combining with coordinating motions to produce a single action.

This life we live – natural or spiritual – is an evolution, evolving from who we thought we were into who were always intended to be.

I have been captivated by two simple words of late – In Him.  I am discovering the infinite meaning and and possibility within them.  It is not a simple phrase, or strapped-on preposition.  It is a posture, a designed location, a living framework.

It – HE – is our cocoon.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, 4 just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and blameless before Him. (Ephesians 1:3&4 NAS)

This human existence was designed to be lived in Jesus.  Human experience apart from this culture is fraught with weakness, disease and dysfunction.  It is in Christ that we are blessed with every spiritual blessing.  It is in Him that we are transformed into holy and blameless.

Everything we are ever to be, learn, achieve and do is discovered and released in Him.  Entering into Him, we are transformed from the inside out.  Let me show you…..

A caterpillar enters the cocoon.  In that place, it becomes dormant for metamorphosis to take place.  There are only two agents at work – the caterpillar and the cocoon.  Yet incredible change takes place with just these two agents.  Everything to be revealed after the cocoon is inside the caterpillar.  It just needed the right environment to bring it all forth.

The caterpillar experiences evolution inside the cocoon.  The result is a radically different, more intricate and infinitely more able version of itself.  It becomes what it was always designed to be.

The parallels are obvious.  Jesus is the firstborn among many brethren.  He comes as our freedom agent – the One who will release the real us – the son – buried inside the life and person we created apart from Him.  As we surrender to Him, the metamorphosis – evolution – begins.

Jesus came to reveal the same DNA that made Him a son of God is laden deep within each of us.  He is the only culture in which that genetic code has proper and rightful evidence.  Until we are found in Him, we are the 14-year old rebel who just found the keys to the Maserati.

Unlike the butterfly, this life is never meant to be lived outside the cocoon.  He becomes our life.  We discover in the evolutionary process that the best life is maintained and progresses through what – Who – first energized it.

When life is not lived in Him, we sin.  It is separation from God that causes sin.  A break in the evolutionary cycle – a season apart from in Him – stunts our growth and degrades not just our circumstances, but our very being.

Look back at the last part of the definition of the word evolution – a motion incomplete in itself, but combining with coordinating motions to produce a single action.  Our evolution is not alone in Christ.  As each of us surrender and live in Him, our coming alive joins with others to form a single action in the earth.  Until the joining, we are incomplete.  And so is the earth.  Powerful.

This is the power of His resurrection.  Every human being coming alive in Him.  He died our death so that we could live His life.  This gospel makes so much more sense when we see it for what it really is.  It’s a prison break.  Life apart from Him was our prison.  The person Father imagined before we did life on our own is the prisoner made free.

There’s a son awaiting release.  Evolve in Him, and let him live.

In Love,

Mark
